Fred Soons

Professor Soons teaches public international law, international law of the sea, and international litigation at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. He is considered an expert in international law and the law of the sea, and works on boundary disputes between nations. Professor Soons received his law degree from the University of Utrecht and then served in the Dutch Navy. He then attended the University of Washington School of Law and its program in law and marine affairs. Today he is the director of the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS). He is considered an expert in international law and the law of the sea, and works on boundary disputes between nations.
